Wayne State University Physician Group said Monday it plans to cut about 80 clerical jobs as part of an agreement to outsource its doctor billing services to Athenahealth in Massachusetts. The group's billing department now employs 118 workers. Workers will learn which jobs are being eliminated during the next four to six months, Wayne State officials said. The university said the move is a continuation of job cuts triggered by an ongoing financial dispute with the Detroit Medical Center over Medicaid payments to doctors.
