At Ford, training trickles down
By Christina Rodgers
In a joint program with the United Auto Workers, Ford Motor Co. sent about 70 hourly staff members from each of its U.S. plants to Wayne State University this summer to begin a rigorous one-year training program designed to equip them with the quality improvement skills usually reserved for managers at Ford factories. The course work, which began in June, focuses on everything from basic computer training to complicated analytical skills that workers can take back to the production line, said Ahmad Ezzeddine, associate vice president for education outreach at Wayne State.
