The Humanities Center has scheduled talks to be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as part of its 2007 Brown Bag Colloquium Series. Upcoming discussions include these:

Frank Wu, dean, Law School, has announced that the Law School Web site now has a list of faculty blogs. Even Dean Wu is among the bloggers.

Read Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid's Feb. 28 testimony before the Michigan House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. Reid and presidents of the state's two other major research universities, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and Michigan State, testified on the WSU School of Medicine campus. As partners collaborating in the University Research Corridor (URC), the three institutions highlighted how their aggregate contributions in scientific research, health care and technology are powerful catalysts for stimulating Michigan’s lagging economy.

Recently, the university announced the ending of free dial-in Internet service for students, faculty and staff on July 2, 2007.

It is time for the selection process for the winter semester 2007 Howard A. Donnelly Award.  The Howard A. Donnelly Award was established in 1927 at the request of Howard Donnelly, a friend of the university, through a grant provided in his name. 

Grace Lee Boggs will speak on “Born Female: Growing into Feminism and Movement Building” at noon, March 1, in Bernath Auditorium, Undergraduate Library.

WDET-FM 101.9 has announced that Jerome Vaughn has been named news program director and will begin his duties on March 5.

Wayne State University’s Patrick J. Gossman at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, will speak about novel advanced wireless services delivered over the only US-licensed frequencies allocated to educators. He will comment during WCA Live! – the radio Webcast produced by Wireless Communications Association International (WCA) and My Technology Lawyer Radio.

The Wayne State University Alumni Association (WSUAA) is currently accepting nominations for several awards.  The nomination deadline for WSUAA Awards is March 1.

The Law School’s 10th Annual Treasure of Detroit Gala will be held at the Gem Theatre in Detroit on Saturday, March 24, 2007.

The application-nomination deadline for the 2006-2007 Campus Life Leadership Awards has been extended to 5 p.m. Friday, March 2.

The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA) welcomes an internationally known professional actor and dancer to the faculty; professors share the art of Brazil and the history of music; and learn about a Month in Moscow .

The University Activities Committee (UAC) presents "An Evening at the Hilberry Theatre," on Friday, March 2.  Curtain call for Amadeus is at 8 p.m., and the cost for tickets is $10 per person.

The Fifth Annual Student Academic Success Summit will be held on Monday evening, April 9, and all day Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at McGregor Memorial Conference Center. This year's topic is "WSU - Making Our Diversity an Educational Asset." The conference is sponsored by Wayne State University through the Provost's office.

The Law School announced a $500,000 gift from the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation.  The gift has catapulted the total amount raised for the Wayne First Law School Campaign to $15,950,000.  

A faculty and staff focus group will discuss improving accessibility at WSU. Present your concerns regarding access to buildings, parking, retail, housing, recreational facilities and more. Light refreshments will be served.

Join in and celebrate Black History Month with several events in February, which are free of charge and open to the public. The Wayne State University Black History Month calandar of events, organized by the Dean of Students Office,  is now available.

The Board of Governors elected officers and established the Elizabeth Hardy Fund on Jan. 24, along with several new degree and certificate programs.

Wayne State University units are evaluating their graduate admissions, financial aid and other programs to ensure they comply with the new Michigan law banning affirmative action in public employment, education and contracting.

The Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center offers a Valentine's Day special for couples to receive side-by-side massages. Feel the tension slip away. The service is offered from Monday, Feb.12, through Sunday, Feb.18.

March 29, 2007, will mark the 45th anniversary of a visit to campus by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, world leader and widow of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was here to attend the College of Education’s Education Day Program. Education alumnus Peter Pascaris who, as the student representative, was an escort for Mrs. Roosevelt during this historic event. His article recalled his interactions with Mrs. Roosevelt that day.

A Federalist Society-sponsored discussion on the law of war is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb.15, in Room 1525 of the old Law School Classroom Building.
