Former Wayne State University Director of Athletics Chalmer Hixson passed away on Sunday. He was inducted into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983.

The Detroit Montessori School, located inside the Cathedral Church of St. Paul on Woodward and Warren avenues, is now enrolling children, age 30 months to 5 years, for the winter semester.

Dr. Bruce Deschere, past president of the Wayne State University School of Medicine Alumni Board, is treating members of the U.S. armed forces and civilians in Afghanistan.

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, affiliated with Wayne State University, is the most preferred hospital for cancer care in southeast Michigan. That's according to the 2007 Cancer Treatment Preference Profile Survey conducted by the National Research Corporation.

Jorge Cham, creator of the cartoon focused on PhD student life, Piled Higher and Deeper (PHD), will be at Wayne State on Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Bernath Auditorium. His presentation, "The Power of Procrastination," will be followed by a book-signing. Admission is free.

The Medical Alumni Association has reserved tickets to several Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons games for alumni and friends.
