Medicaid disputes the Detroit Medical Center's claims that WSU doctors are overpaid, and the mayor says he's ready to step in.

University Pharmacy opened its doors to the public Feb. 12 in the Towers Residential Suites. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and refreshments were part of the celebration.

In its efforts to assist residents who were displaced following last week's tragic fire, the Department of Theatre presented a special performance of Biloxi Blues on Feb. 9. Proceeds totaling more than $6,000 will benefit the 30 Wayne State students who lost their homes and possessions in the blaze.

GradeCheck Corporation, headquartered at TechTown, has signed a five-year contract with Five Star Basketball to be the exclusive academic counsel to Five Star student athletes at their annual summer camps.

The Detroit News reported the Detroit Medical Center's (DMC) plans to cut $10 million each year in payments to Wayne State’s School of Medicine doctors who treat Medicaid patients. The DMC says the doctors are getting that amount through a new state program and they shouldn't be double-paid for services.

Several media outlets reported that Wayne State has decided on what to do with student contingency fees. Two students commented to The Detroit News.

Fun, fashion and fostering the memory of a friend and colleague all were in the air Saturday, Feb. 2, as the College of Nursing Family, Community and Mental Health (FCMH) faculty staged their second annual fashion show in the social hall of the Prince of Peace Church in West Bloomfield.

Wayne State University has set up a relief fund for 30 students left homeless by a fire at the Forest Arms apartments.  Dr. David Strauss, the Dean of Students, says the university has been helping the displaced students with housing, meals, counseling and academic issues.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Wayne State Library System and Art Collection are presenting a text and visual display highlighting The Legend of John Brown, a remarkable suite of 22 silkscreen prints created by renowned African-American artist Jacob Lawrence. The exhibit is on the second floor of the Undergraduate Library.

Three faculty members recently were honored for excellence and innovation in teaching at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (EACPHS). The college also honored a staff member for excellence in job performance.
