Kevin L. Jefferson has joined the Office of Government and Community Affairs as director of federal relations.  Jefferson will serve as Wayne State’s key advocate in Washington DC.  

The Detroit Free Press reports Charles Whitten, MD, nationally recognized for his efforts as a sickle cell disease specialist and for the recruitment of minorities into the medical profession, has died.

Danialle Karmanos, who is married to Peter Karmanos, Jr. of Compuware, will run for a seat on the Board of Governors.

Wayne State University’s Forum on Contemporary Issues in Society (FOCIS) and Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies (CBS) present a panel discussion highlighting the differences and similarities between Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the United States. The event will be held in connection with the Sept. 12 FOCIS lecture featuring Vicente Fox, former president of Mexico.
