Pitch script ideas, learn film industry at three-day boot camp

Do you have a movie idea or know a Wayne State student who is an aspiring filmmaker? Script ideas are welcome at a weekend-long film boot camp that will be held on campus Nov. 13 - 15.

Larry Meistrich, an Academy Award-winning producer, and NEHST Studios, his distribution company, are seeking new scripts and film talent for upcoming productions. Meistrich will hold one-on-one pitch sessions for filmmakers and writers who wish to present their best script or story idea for financing and/or production consideration.

Meistrich has been impressed with his past pitch sessions and subsequent deals. Proving his system as one that works, his last Cleveland boot camp brought him a pitch from filmmakers Kevin Kerwin and Kate O’Neil, a husband-and-wife team who are now directing and line-producing the documentary, Running America. The project chronicles marathon runners Charlie Engle and Marshall Ulrich as they strive to break the record for running across the United States.

Meistrich has produced nearly 100 feature films including:

  • Sling Blade starring Billy Bob Thornton
  • You Can Count on Me starring Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney
  • Belly starring DMX, Nas and Method Man

By participating in the workshop, you can get the inside track on how to write, produce, cast, direct and sell your own feature film, as well as learn practical strategies for navigating the movie business.
