Announcing the public phase of Wayne First: The Campaign for Wayne State University

The university community is invited to a kickoff celebration at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, to mark the announcement of the public phase of Wayne First: The Campaign for Wayne State University. The festival-like celebration will take over Anthony Wayne Drive at North and South residence halls and feature Detroit-themed treats such as Good Humor Ice Cream, Coney Island hot dogs and Vernors. Tents will be hoisted and WSU community artists, singers and dancers will perform.

The progress and the goal

At 4 p.m., University President Irvin D. Reid, joined by city officials will make the public campaign announcement. Nearly 45 percent of the campaign’s $500 million goal has been reached. Reid also will announce major gift and building contributions.

“This campaign will be the catalyst to take Wayne State from a great university to an extraordinary one,” says Reid. “I encourage all employees and students to attend the announcement celebration and share with the community our belief in this institution and this campaign.”

Where the money goes

Campaign contributions offer the opportunity to build on the university’s strengths and venture into new areas of scholarship and service. Private gifts raised through the campaign will provide resources to increase the number of student scholarships and fellowships; increase the number of endowed chairs; and enable new construction.
