How do you feel about movie crews in your Detroit-area neighborhood?

In on Oct 15, 2009

Known for its Great Lakes and Detroit's former reign as home to the leading car manufacturers, will Michigan transition into a place that can really become the Hollywood of the Midwest?

The state's film tax credit is a huge location factor for directors, but how do you feel about movie crews filming scenes in your Detroit-area neighborhood?

Many Michiganders are excited. Others, however, whose streets and driveways have been temporarily blocked by a film crew, have said it's a nuisance.

This is wonderful for the area. A few inconveniences here and there, but for a much, much greater good. A few years ago it was a big deal when "8 mile" was filmed in town, now we've got Al Pacino and Susan Sarandon in town. Traffic info on tv and radio had 4 'shoots' mentioned in yesterday's newscasts. This is GREAT! Great for the economy, a real much-needed boost for the city's repuation...and potential for lots of local, small jobs (catering, acting in small parts, setting up sets, electrical, etc, et.) Best thing to happen in town in quite a few years. - Robin M.
As long as the environment is well protected, I welcome the movie industry to spend money in our state. Lord knows we could use it right now. And while I can appreciate that it maybe an inconvenience to some, I would ask those people to keep in mind the benefits it offers to everyone. - Joy
Personally, I think it would be an effective stimulus for the mired economy as well as confidence in Metro Detroit. Surely it will bring cash for the city. However, I am quite worried about the environment or the traffic issue linked to movie shooting. Maybe there should be a balance between city's benefits with people's welfare. - Yee
I LOVE IT! Anything that creates jobs, opportunity, and positive recognition is Grade A in my book! - DeDe
